USC's Leimbach One Step Away From A Pac-10 Singles Title

Ojai, Calif. - USC's Nicole Leimbach advanced to the finals in singles to battle for a Pac-10 title on Saturday, April 23, at the 2005 Pac-10 Championships in Ojai, Calif. Carine Vermeulen also took the next step into the finals of the women's singles invitational.

Leimbach, ranked ninth nationally, advanced to the finals with a victory over Theresa Logar of Stanford, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Leimbach will face Alice Barnes, who defeated her teammate Anne Yelsey, 6-2, 6-1, on Sunday.

Dianne Matias and Leimbach later fell to Dianne Hollands and Maja Mlakar of Arizona, 8-4, in the semifinals of the women's doubles main draw.

Vermeulen put herself in the finals with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Arizona's Kasia Jakowlew and will now face Washington State's Amy Toth, who defeated the Sun Devils' Jessica Leitch, 6-0, 6-4, on Sunday.

The final day of the Pac-10 Tournament begins tomorrow, Sunday, April 24, at 8 a.m. in Ojai, Calif.
