Cardinal Men Finish Sixth At Pac-10 Championships

Walla Walla, Wash. - The Stanford men's golf team shot a 365 on the final day of competition at the 2005 Pac-10 Championships at the Walla Wall Country Club. Their four-round score of 1438 gave them a sixth place finish overall. The Washington Huskies came from behind Wednesday, to win the team title (1425).

The Huskies, who earned an automatic bid to the NCAA West RegionalChampionships with their victory, came into the final round in fifthplace, 17 strokes behind third-round leader Arizona State. Washingtonposted the lowest team score of the final round, finishing the day tiedwith Arizona State.

Pac-10 Conference rules stipulate that in the event of a tie, the lowestscore between each team's sixth man will decide the tournament.Washington's Sterling Clark came into the clubhouse with a 77 (+6), andArizona State's Charly Simon posted a 78 (+7), giving Washington its firstPac-10 team title since 1988.

Freshman Rob Grube posted a four-day total of 281 (69-72-66-74) to place fourth individually to lead the Cardinal. Senior Kevin Blue tied for 10th with a 284 (70-73-80-71) while teammate Matt Savage tied for 31st (73-74-73-71--291). Stanford's Scott MacDonald (73-82-72-72) and Pat Phillips (78-69-75-77) tied for 50th with a 299. Rounding out the Cardinal competitors was Kyle Gentry who tied for 54th (79-71-70-81--301).
