Rindal Named Pac-10 Player Of The Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Washington sophomore designated hitter Curt Rindal has been named Pacific-10Conference Baseball Player of the Week and USC sophomore Ian Kennedy has beennamed Pitcher of the Week for April 26-May 2, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Rindal, from Mount Vernon, Wash., went 8-for-15 (.533) with five runs, 12 runs battedin, two doubles and three home runs in the Huskies' three-game sweep at WashingtonState. In the UW's 14-2 win on May 1, Rindal hit two homers, scored three runs anddrove in four. He came into the weekend series with only 13 RBI all season and nearlydoubled that total with 12 in the three games. Rindal did, in fact, more than double hishome run total, pushing it from two to five.
Kennedy, from Huntington Beach, Calif., struck out 14 batters in eight scoreless inningsof work in the Trojans' 13-0 shutout at Arizona on April 29. The right-hander allowedjust three hits and three walks against a team that was batting .328 entering the contest. Indoing so, Kenedy helped theTrojans hand Arizona pitcher John Meloan his first loss as astarter in two years. On the season, Kennedy is now 8-1 with a 2.53 ERA, havingrecorded a Conference-leading 108 strikeouts while issuing just 28 walks in 74 and two-thirds innings pitched. He is now 5-0 with a 1.72 ERA in Pac-10 games with 11 walksand 58 strikeouts, and has registered double digits in strikeouts in four of his last five starts.
The Player of the Week honor is the first of Rindal's career, while it is the 46th suchhonor for Washington. The Pitcher of the Week honor is the second for Kennedy and the56th selection all-time for USC.
