May 10, 2005

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Oregon State sophomore pitcher Brianne McGowan earned an invitation to participate in the USA Softball National Team Selection Camp, June 13-17, at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA, as was announced by the Amateur Softball Association and USA Softball on Tuesday.

McGowan, from Reno, Nev., is one of 32 initial athletes selected to participate in the camp with a chance to earn a spot on the 18-member national team and 16-member elite team that will represent the United States in various international events during 2005.

The 6-2 pitcher currently boasts a 33-6 record on the season to go along with 29 complete games and 10 shutouts. McGowan's 33 victories are the most in school history and her 279 strikeouts are just nine shy of the Oregon State single season record.

McGowan has picked up wins against 14 teams ranked in the Top 25 and earned the victory in 21 consecutive appearances during Oregon State's school record 22-game winning streak. She has earned Pacific-10 Conference Pitcher of the Week honors four times this season and was selected the USA Softball National Player of the Week for April 4-10.

Of the 32 initial athletes selected for the training camp, 18 are current or former Pac-10 players.
