Anderson, Pamanian Named to District VIII Academic First Team

California pitcher Kelly Anderson and second baseman Jessica Pamanian were named to the District VIII Academic All-America First Team as announced by CoSIDA on Thursday.

Anderson, a senior from Woodland, Calif., carries a 3.36 grade-point average as a legal studies major. She was named to the Pac-10 Conference all-academic first team in 2004 and to the second team in 2003. Anderson, an All-Pac-10 honoree the past two seasons, plans to attend law school this fall. This year she is 23-6 with a 1.27 ERA for the No. 2-ranked Bears.

Pamanian, a senior psychology major from Milpitas, has a 3.32 GPA. In 2004, she was named to the Pac-10 All-Academic second team and was an honorable mention pick in 2003. An honorable mention All-Pac-10 selection in 2004, Pamanian is batting .278 with 25 RBI and 22 runs this season.

Cal, along with Pacific, were the only two schools to place two representatives on the first team. The results of the Academic All-American team vote will be released June 2.

The Bears (44-10 overall, 11-7 Pac-10) host No. 3 Arizona today at 3 p.m. at Levine-Fricke Field. Cal wraps up regular-season play at home, May 13-14 against Arizona State.
