Huskies Stun No. 6 Oregon State 9-0

SEATTLE-- Senior pitcher Ashley Boek gave up just two hits against sixth-ranked Oregon State this afternoon as Washington upended the Beavers 9-0 in six innings at Husky Softball Stadium. Junior Aimee Minor drove in four runs in the win, while senior Kristen Rivera hit the game-ending home run to extend her school record to 77 career home runs.
The Huskies improve to 30-19 on the season and 9-10 in the Pac-10, while the Beavers fall to 40-12 overall and 13-6. OSU had a one game lead over Stanford in the Pac-10 standings heading into today and is looking for its first conference title.
Washington posted three quick runs in the first inning on three hits. Dominique Lastrapes drew a lead off walk and Ashley Charters followed with a single to the shortstop. Senior Kathy Fiske then blasted a single off the right field wall to score Lastrapes and Minor singled up the middle to score two more runs and give UW the 3-0 lead.
Boek kept the Oregon State hitters off balance, not allowing a hit until the third inning when Vanessa Iapala singled into right field.
The Huskies manufactured another run in the fourth inning on one hit. Sarah Hyatt walked and was replaced by pinch runner Jessica Wilkinson. Wilkinson stole second base and moved to third on a ground out to the right side. Caitlin Noble then hit a bloop single into right field to score Wilkinson and extend Washington's lead to 4-0.
UW tacked on three more runs in the fifth frame on three hits and an error. Rivera led off with a walk and OSU replaced starter Brianne McGowan with Amy Klever. Fiske hit a double to right centerfield and Minor hit a two-RBI triple into right field. Hyatt kept the rally going with a single up the middle to score Minor and put the Huskies on top 7-0.
Oregon State recorded its only other hit in the sixth inning with a single by McGowan but Boek got out of the inning with a fielder's choice.
Washington put the game away in the bottom half of the sixth when Charters reached on a throwing error by the first baseman and Rivera blasted her 19th home run of the season over the left field wall to trigger the mercy-rule.
Boek (16-12) earned the win as she held OSU to two hits and struck out four.
McGowan (33-7) took the loss as she gave up five runs on four hits in four innings with five strikeouts.
Minor finished the day 2-for-3 with four RBIs, while Fiske went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
The Huskies conclude the regular season with home games vs. Oregon on Friday and Saturday. The team's square off tomorrow at 3 pm and Saturday at 1 pm.
