Matt Einspahr Named to ESPN The Magazine District 8 All-Academic Team

EUGENE, OR - California senior third baseman Matt Einspahr has been named to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine's District 8 All-Academic Baseball First Team. The academic baseball team was voted on by CoSIDA members from within the District 8 states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington, and the province of British Colombia. The district selections advance to the national ballot, which will be released May 31.

Einspahr, from Port Orchard, Wash., has a 3.32 GPA in sociology and was recently acknowledge at Cal's Honors Luncheon as a winner of the Pac-10 Postgraduate Scholarship. A captain of the Bears' baseball team, Einspahr will graduate this spring and plans to pursue a career in dentistry.

This season, Einspahr has started all 53 games for Cal, batting .290 with seven doubles, four home runs and a team-leading 37 RBI. He is also batting .301 against Pac-10 competition, including knocking in the game-winning RBI against Arizona State in the Bears' 4-3 come-from-behind victory, Apr. 10 at Evans Diamond. The Cal baseball team is currently 32-21 overall and 11-10 in the Pac-10.
