Cal Repeats as Pac-10 Champion

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. - For the second consecutive year Cal women's crew Golden Bears won the Pac-10 team title. The Bears won two out of three races on the day to take the team title. The Cal women won the varsity eight, and second varsity eight. With their wins, the varsity eight and second varsity eight remained undefeated on the year, heading into the NCAA's in two weeks.
In the varsity eight race, the top seeded Bears took the early lead over Stanford, Washington and USC. Cal continued to increase its lead throughout the next 1500 meters. The Bears finished the race six seconds ahead of the Cardinal.
The second varsity eight started the race neck and neck with UCLA. At the 1000 meter mark Cal began to jump out ahead of the Bruins. The Bears finished the race three seconds head of UCLA.
The novice eight fell to Washington after a close race. The Huskies led throughout the race with Cal trailing less than a second behind for the first 1000 meters. In the second half of the race Washington jumped ahead and finished the race four seconds ahead of defending champion Cal.
