Olson Named Pac-10 Golfer of the Month
May 16, 2005
Walnut Creek, CA - The Pac-10 Conference announced today that Erik Olson of Washington has been named Pac-10 Golfer of the Month for April. He becomes the first UW golfer to receive the honor.
Olson, a sophomore from Renton, Wash., won his first collegiate tournament and it was a big one as he shot an eight-under par 276 to win the Pacific-10 Conference Championship at Walla Walla (Wash.) Country Club. In the process, he led the Huskies, who entered the final round of the tournament in fifth place, to a come-from-behind team win giving Washington its first Pac-10 title since 1988. Olson, who was the only golfer to shoot under par in each round of the Championships, became the first Husky individual champion since O.D. Vincent in 1988. Vincent is the current head coach at UCLA.
Others nominated for player of the month honors were Pat Moore of Arizona State, Nathan Lashley of Arizona and Matt Ma of Oregon.
