Stanford Men bring home 4 medals

May 16, 2005

Rancho Cordova, CA- The Stanford Men came away from the Pac 10/ PCRC weekend with medals in four events. Head Coach and Director of Rowing Craig Amerkhanian noted: 'This was a full team effort. All oarsmen encouraged one another to achieve these results.'

The #5 ranked Varsity 8+ finished behind #2 California and #4 ranked Washington to earn the bronze medal.

The 2nd Varsity defeated a tough Oregon State 2V by .3 seconds to earn a third place finish.

On Saturday, the Cardinal entered the Open 4+ and Men's Collegiate Novice 4+. The Open 4+ finished 5th but the story of the day was the Novice 4+'s gold medal performance. Racing against California in both the heat and final, the group emerged victorious. They followed the Novice 4+ gold with a 'come from behind' push in the Varsity 4+ event on Sunday. This inspired effort led to a bronze medal in their third race of the weekend. The four dedicated their Novice gold medal to bowman David Houska's mother who is fighting for her life.

The #5 Cardinal will strive to continue the medal trend at the IRA on June 2-4. Following the IRA regatta, the Cardinal will set sights on the Henley Royal Regatta.
