UCLA Selected to Compete for National Championship

May 17, 2005

The UCLA Women's Rowing Team has been selected to compete in the 2005 NCAA Division I Championships for the first time in its four years as a varsity sport. The championships are hosted by California State University, Sacramento and will take place May 27-29 on Lake Natoma in Sacramento, California.

The championships will include 12 teams (first eight, second eight, four) and four at-large eights. UCLA earned an at-large bid based on its 5th-place finish at the Pac-10 championships last weekend along with its strong regular-season performance.

The Bruins enter the championships as the 15th-ranked varsity eight in the country, according to the final US Rowing /Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Poll. They are joined by fellow Pac-10 contenders California, USC, and Washington in the field of 16.

Information about the championships, including race schedules and ticket information are available at hornetsports.com/sports/wcrew/.
