Four Bruins Called Up To U.S. U-20 National Team
May 18, 2005
Four Bruins have been selected to the U.S. Under-20 National Team roster for a May 18 friendly vs. Canada in Blaine, Minn. Current team members Benny Feilhaber, Patrick Ianni and Marvell Wynne, along with former Bruin Chad Barrett, will join 18 others for the 7:35 pm CT game.
Fans can follow the match live on ussoccer.com's MatchTracker, presented by Philips Electronics.
All four players were part of the U.S. team during qualifying for the World Youth Championships. Ianni and Wynne led a defense that only allowed one goal during qualifying. Feilhaber was part of a dangerous midfield that controlled the flow and sprung quick attacks forward, and Barrett scored the game-winning goal in the match against Costa Rica.
This game will be the last before the team heads to Holland for the FIFA World Youth Championships. The U.S. is tentatively planned to leave for the tournament on June 1, providing the team with 10 days in the Netherlands before their first match. The U.S. kicks off the tournament against Argentina on June 11, before facing Germany on June 14 and finishing Group D play on June 18 against Egypt.
