June 21, 2005

Seattle - A pair of Washington golfers had outstanding performances in two top amateur tournaments today. Husky freshman Sterling Clark advanced to the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship while Zach Bixler is tied for the lead at the Washington State Amateur.

Clark, a native of Salt Lake City, shot rounds of 67 and 63 at the Sectional Qualifier in Salt Lake City at Rose Park Golf Course to tie for first and advance to the championship. This year's tournament will take place July 11-16 at Shaker Run Golf Club in Lebanon, Ohio. Clark will be a sophomore at UW next year.

Bixler (Richland), also a rising sophomore, carded a 3-under 69 to tie for the lead at the WSGA Men's Amateur Championship being contested at The Links at Moses Pointe in Moses Lake. He is tied with Steven Dales and Jeff McNaughton for the lead. UW's Alex Prugh (Spokane) and Chad Gormey (Everett) are tied for fourth at 70.
