Mackenzie Open US Open with 4-Over 75

Cherry Hills Village, Colo. - Washington senior Paige Mackenzie shot 4-over 75 during her first appearance at the U.S. Women's Open at the Cherry Hills Country Club in Cherry Hills Village, Colo. Mackenzie is tied for 55th with 48 golfers remaining to complete their first round after play was suspended due to darkness. Severe weather in the area delayed play during the afternoon.
Mackenzie started on the back nine and posted back-to-back birdies to start her round and quickly climb to the top of the leaderboard. She then went bogie-bogie before carding birdies on her fifth and sixth holes to return to 2-under. She pared No. 16 when play was halted. After the delay she double-bogied No. 17. Mackenzie completed her round with five birdies, six pars, five bogies and two double bogies.
At the Women's Western Golf Association's 105th National Amateur Championship being held at Purdue, Husky junior Courtney McCracken won twice in match play to advance to Friday's quarterfinals.
McCracken needed an extra hole to defeat Mallory Hetzel of Summerville, S.C. in the morning and then ousted Megan Godfrey of Homewood, Ill., 1 up in the round of 16.Husky junior Amber Prange lost in the round of 32 of match play to Mandi McConnell of Grand Blanc, Mich., 5 and 4. The Western Amateur concludes Saturday.
