Stahley And Costella Compete On First Day Of Santa Clara International Meet

Santa Clara, Calif. - Stanford affiliates Desiree Stahley and Lauren Costella (both juniors in 2005-06) placed seventh and ninth, respectively, in the 1500 meter free on the first day of action Thursday at the 2005 Santa Clara International Meet. Stahley (Unattached) turned in a time of 17:10.58, while Costella (Carson Tigersharks) was clocked in 17:14.61 in the only women's event on the first of four consecutive days of competition at the meet being hosted by the Santa Clara Swim Club at the Santa Clara International Swim Center.
Kate Ziegler (The Fish) smashed her own meet record with a time of 16:11.23 to win the event, surpassing her old mark of 16:20.45 set on May 20, 2004.
Prelim and finals action in four individual events (100 free, 200 breast, 400 free, 100 fly), as well as finals only competition in the 400 free relay will take place on Friday at the meet, which is one of four stops on the Grand Prix circuit leading up to the FINA World Championships from July 24-31 in Montreal.
Other Stanford affiliates scheduled to compete at the 2005 Santa Clara International Meet include current Stanford swimmers Brooke Bishop (2005-06 sophomore), Elizabeth Durot (2005-06 sophomore), Dana Kirk (2005-06 senior) and Caroline Rodriguez (2005-06 sophomore), as well as former Stanford swimmer Tara Kirk (2000-04).
