USC To Host 2007 NCAA Women's Basketball First- And Second-Round Games
July 6, 2005
USC has been chosen as a site for first- and second-round games in the 2007 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championships.
The games will be played in the 10,280-seat Galen Center, which is scheduled to open in the summer of 2006. After a season's worth of USC competition, this will be the first NCAA-sponsored event to be held in the new on-campus events center.
The games, featuring eight teams, will be played on either March 17 and 19 or March 18 and 20.
Other 2007 first- and second-round sites will be in Austin, East Lansing, Hartford, Minneapolis, Pittsburgh, Raleigh and Stanford. Winnners will advance to regionals in Dallas, Dayton, Greensboro and Fresno, with the Final Four set for Cleveland.
USC previously hosted the NCAA Women's Basketball West Regional in 1999 and the Final Four in 1992, both in the Sports Arena.
This past season, the Women of Troy advanced to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1997. They fell in the second round to eventual NCAA finalist Michigan State on a last-second basket. USC finished 20-11 and ranked 22nd. Eleven players return from that squad.
