July 19, 2005
Ligita Kaviere and Kinga Marciszewska, two members of the USC Varsity Rowing Team, will compete July 21-24 in the 2005 World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Amsterdam, Netherlands, to represent their respective countries.
Kaviere will represent Latvia in the double scull and Marciszewska will compete in the coxless four representing Poland.
The regatta formally known as the Nation's Cup and the Match des Seniors will host a record number of 51 nations represented by 700 athletes in 19 events. The regatta will take place on the Bosbaan International Regatta Course in Amsterdam.
This event gives athletes that have advanced from a junior level a forum to participate and develop their skills. This will be the first year the regatta has gained the title of 'World Rowing Championships'.
Kaviere was a member of the Varsity Eight that placed 10th at the 2005 NCAA Championships as a freshman. Marciszwska helped to lead the Varsity Four to a Pac-10 title and a sixth place finish at the 2005 NCAA Championships as a Sophomore.
