Mackenzie Reaches Finals of Trans Am

Southern Pines, NC - Husky senior Paige Mackenzie advanced to the championship final at the 75th Women's Trans National Golf Association championship at the Mid Pines Inn and Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C.

Mackenzie downed Giselle Claux in the round of 16 4 and 2. Their match was halted Friday when severe thunderstorms dropped five inches of rain on the course. Mackenzie then eliminated Sarah Martin 1 up in Saturday's quarterfinals.

Mackenzie made it to the 36-hole final by beating Sophia Sheridan 4-3 in Saturday afternoon's semifinals. Mackenzie entered match play as the top seed after finishing first in 36 holes of stroke play to start the tournament.

Duke's Elizabeth Janangelo of West Hartford, Conn. will face Mackenzie in Sunday's final. The first 18 holes starts at 8 a.m. EDT and the second round of the match play event is slated to begin at 12:30 PDT.

The Trans Am is considered one of the nation's three top amateur tournaments for women.
