Rankin Wins Again for Third Consecutive Race
July 25, 2005
Recent graduate and two-time All-American, Jon Rankin, recorded his third consecutive victory in Europe on Saturday, July 23. Rankin, running in Gavle, Sweden, won the 800m race (time not available), setting a new Valbo Games record.
Within the past two weeks, Rankin has recorded victories in the 800m (1:47.61) in Karlstad, Sweden, in the 1500m (3:38.90, new school record) in Norkoping, Sweden and now in Gavle, Sweden.
Rankin, who had been running in his UCLA jersey in the first two meets, is now running for Nike, and competed for the first time as a Nike athlete in Gavle. With the crowd behind him as he pushed for a new stadium and meet record, Rankin raced towards the finish line, breaking the old meet record by three seconds.
Rankin will now head to Stolkholm, Sweden for what he feels is the most important race of his life at the DN Galan Meet. The meet, which is held at a historic site and venue is motivating Rankin towards a big performance.
'Maybe I'll do something historic while I'm there,' said Rankin. 'I believe anything is possible at this point in time.'
