Women's Hoops Announces 2005-2006 Schedule

July 25, 2005

SEATTLE - Husky head coach June Daugherty announced the 2005-06 schedule for the Washington women's basketball team Monday, a slate that includes nine opponents that appeared in the 2005 NCAA Tournament including the defending champion Baylor Lady Bears.

Baylor highlights a formidable preseason slate that includes the likes of 2005 NCAA tourney competitors Florida State, Utah and Rice, while Pac-10 teams Stanford (Elite Eight), Arizona State (Sweet 16), USC, Oregon and Arizona are also squads that participated in postseason play last year.

Husky fans' first chance to get a glimpse of the 2005-06 squad will be Sunday, Nov. 6, when UW takes on the Northwest All-Stars in an exhibition contest at 2 p.m. at Bank of America Arena. Washington will open the season on the road, traveling to Alabama (Nov. 18) and Florida State (Nov. 20). UW hosts its season opener on Wednesday, Nov. 23 - a 1 p.m. matinee with Utah.

The 19th annual Husky Classic will take place during Thanksgiving weekend, Saturday, Nov. 26, through Sunday, Nov. 27. Joining Washington in the four-team field will be Rice, Pennsylvania and San Diego. Matchups and times are still yet to be determined.

From there, the Huskies will travel to Texas to take on Baylor (Dec. 2) and Texas A&M (Dec. 4), before returning home to wrap the non-conference schedule with Michigan (Dec. 9) and Eastern Washington (Dec. 12).

The Pac-10 schedule tips off before the Christmas holidays, with UW hosting Cal (Dec. 20) and Stanford (Dec. 22) to open the conference slate. The Huskies make their Pac-10 road debut at Arizona State (Dec. 29) and Arizona (Dec. 31). The Pac-10 Tournament will be held March 3-6 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif.

Washington returns 14 letterwinners and five starters from last year's squad that posted a 14-16 overall record and a 9-9 mark in Pac-10 play. UW will be led by senior co-captains Kayla Burt, Nicole Castro and Kristen O'Neill.
