Aug. 30, 2005
TEMPE, Ariz. - Senior Wide Receiver Derek Hagan was named to Sports Illustrated's 2005 Preseason All-American First Team, the magazine announced. The selection adds to the long list of honors Hagan has received this preseason, having been named a First Team All-American by five other publications.
Already a member of the Biletnikoff Award watchlist, given to the nation's top receiver, Hagan was also selected to the Playboy Preseason First Team All-American list, as well as CBS Sportsline, Blue Ribbon, Lindy's, and College Football News First Teams.
In 2004, Hagan caught 83 passes for 1,248 yards and 10 touchdowns for the Vitalis Sun Bowl Champions. He became only the second Sun Devil in school history to record back-to-back 1,000-yard receiving seasons, after gaining 1,076 yards in 2003. Hagan enters his senior year needing only eight receptions, 265 yards and six touchdowns to become the Sun Devil's all-time leader in those categories.
Hagan and the Sun Devils begin the 93rd season of Arizona State football this Thursday, as they take on the Temple Owls at Sun Devil Stadium with kickoff at 7 p.m. MST.
