Elizabeth Bogus Selected Pac-10's Soccer Player of the Week

Sept. 6, 2005

TEMPE, Ariz. - Elizabeth Bogus, a member of the Arizona State University soccer team, was selected as the Pac-10 Player of the Week for Aug. 30-Sept. 5, conference Commissioner Tom Hansen announced Tuesday. The honor is the third in Bogus' career and the eighth in the history of the program.

Bogus (Sr., Sandy, Utah) recorded her first two goals of the season Friday night in ASU's thrilling 3-2, double-overtime victory against UC Irvine in Tempe. With the Sun Devils trailing, 2-1, with just under five minutes remaining, Bogus collected a pass, turned and dribbled through three defenders to score the equalizer. Then, in the second overtime session, teammate Lauren Niblett sent a cross into the box that, after skipping off the keeper's hands, came to Bogus who drove home the winning goal into the empty net.

Her 22 career goals move her into fifth on the all-time list at ASU and her 58 points also stand in fifth place in the record books. Bogus was named the 2002 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and was a second-team All-Pac-10 selection one year ago.

The Sun Devils return to the pitch this weekend with a pair of contests as ASU faces Syracuse (1-3-0) at 4 p.m. Friday and Auburn (1-3-0) at 11 a.m. Sunday at the New Mexico Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M.
