Sept. 23, 2005

PULLMAN, Wash. - Fans wishing to get their first look at this season's Washington State University baseball team are invited to join players, coaches and alumni during the Cougar Baseball Alumni Weekend, Oct. 7-9.

Weekend highlights include Game 2 of the Crimson & Gray World Series, the Cougar Alumni Game, the WSU-Stanford football game and the Cougar Baseball Golf Tournament at the University of Idaho Golf Course.

'Alumni weekend is always a highlight to the fall season,' said WSU head coach Donnie Marbut, who enters his second season leading the Cougars. 'It's a perfect time to renew friendships with former players and families, enjoy a great college football weekend in Pullman, and with Sunday's golf tournament and auction, benefit the Cougar baseball program.'

The weekend begins Friday, Oct. 7 at 5:30 p.m. with Game 2 of the Crimson & Gray World Series, the annual intrasquad series that concludes fall practice. Following the game WSU alumni will have a batting practice session and social with Cougar coaches.

The Cougar Alumni Game takes place Saturday, Oct. 8, at Bailey-Brayton Field followed by the WSU-Stanford football game at Martin Stadium. Festivities include a pre-game barbeque and a post-game social. The Cougar Golf Tournament begins Sunday morning, Oct. 9, at the University of Idaho Golf Course with a 9:30 a.m. shot-gun start. The cost to play in the tournament is $75 and includes breakfast, a Cougar shirt, a WSU baseball hat, all refreshments and lunch. Following the tournament there will be a raffle and silent auction with autographed memorabilia and Cougar apparel.

The weekend concludes at the golf course with a celebration for former WSU coach Bobo Brayton's 80th birthday. Brayton coached the Cougars for 33 seasons, amassing a record of 1,162 wins, 523 losses and eight ties. His win total ranked 18th among all NCAA Division I coaches entering last season while his .689 winning percentage was tied for 35th.
