  • OREGON STATE, one of the hottest teams in the nation right now, posted two wins over the weekend, including a 2-1 victory over No. 15 SAN DIEGO STATE and a 1-0 edging of 12th-ranked UCLA, to continue its 10-match unbeaten streak ... The unbeaten streak sets a new OSU record.

  • The Beavers entered the national rankings for the first time this week, earning the 17th spot on Soccer America's latest poll ... UCLA is the highest-ranked Pac-10 team, coming in at No. 11 in the Soccer Times poll ... Also among the nation's best: No. 12 CALIFORNIA (ST), No. 19 SDSU (SA, ST) and No. 25 WASHINGTON (ST).

  • The Bears rebounded from their two Conference-opening losses in early October, to post a 1-0 victory over STANFORD on Sat., Oct. 8 ... Senior midfielder Pieter Berger scored his first game-winning goal of the season.

  • Defensive-minded: The Washington-San Diego State match on Sun., Oct. 9 ended in a 0-0 double overtime draw ... Despite a combined 35 shot attempts, neither team could put points on the scoreboard, thanks to the five UW saves from Chris Eylander and six saves from SDSU's Tally Hall.

  • Pac-10 teams continue to be among the best in the nation in a variety of categories ... The Aztecs are tied for first in shutout percentage (0.73) and rank fourth in goals against average (0.43) ... California is tied for sixth in save percentage (0.875), while UCLA also ranks sixth in shutout percentage (0.70) ... On the individual side, the Bruins' Eric Reed ranks first in save percentage (.903), followed up by SDSU's Hall (.900).

  • This week's schedule at a glance includes --/17/20 Oregon State and --/--/25 Washington playing at 13/14/12 California and NR Stanford, while 17/12/11 UCLA will take on 25/19/19 San Diego State, as well as Cal State Northridge in a non-conference matchup.


  • CALIFORNIA Golden Bears (1-2-0, 8-2-1)After dropping its first two Conference matches, California rebounded with a 1-0 win over Stanford on Sat., Oct. 8 to improve to 1-2-0, 8-2-1 on the season ... The Bears, who are ranked as high as 12th in the latest Soccer Times poll, went scoreless throughout the first half and much of the second, but were relieved by senior midfielder Pieter Berger's 77th-minute score ... On an assist from sophomore midfielder/forward Luke Sassano, Berger scored his first game-winner of the season ... California senior forward/midfielder, Calen Carr, continues to pace the league in shots (43), shots per game (3.91), while also being tied for points per game (1.27) ... The Bears will host a hot Oregon State team on Fri., Oct. 14, followed up by a match with Washington on Sun., Oct. 16 in Berkeley.

  • OREGON STATE Beavers (3-0-0, 7-2-4)Oregon State, riding a 10-match unbeaten streak, having picked up two wins over the weekend, including a 1-0 victory over No. 12 UCLA, is one of the hottest teams in the nation ... On Fri., Oct. 7 the Beavers handed No. 15 San Diego State its first loss of the season in a 2-1 edging, as well as defeating the Bruins two days later to see its record to 3-0-0, 7-2-4 on the year ... OSU entered the rankings for the first time this season, placing in at No. 17 in Soccer America's latest poll ... Freshman goalkeeper Packy Deenihan registered six saves on the weekend, including four against UCLA, holding the Bruins to their first shutout in 2005 ... Deenihan leads the Pac-10 in saves, with 64, 25 more than his next-nearest competitor ... Sophomore midfielder Lucas Egenwall scored the lone goal against UCLA ... The 10-match unbeaten streak is a new OSU record ... The Beavers will head south this weekend to take on California on Fri., Oct. 14 and Stanford on Sun., Oct. 16.

  • SAN DIEGO STATE Aztecs (1-1-2, 7-1-3) San Diego State suffered its first loss of the season in a 2-1 match against Oregon State on Fri., Oct. 7 ... The Aztecs rebounded, however, to post a double overtime scoreless tie against Washington just two days later ... SDSU is now 1-1-2, 7-1-3 on the season and sitting nicely in third place in the Pac-10, its inaugural Conference campaign ... The Huskies attempted 23 shots against San Diego State, making for a busy day for junior goalkeeper Tally Hall, as he registered six saves ... Hall, who notched his eighth shutout on the year, leads the Pac-10 in shutouts and shutouts per game (0.73) ... The Aztecs pace the Conference in goals allowed (5) and goals against average (0.43) ... The 0.43 mark is good enough to rank fourth nationally, while the team's 0.73 shutout percentage ties them for first in the nation ... San Diego State has one lone match this week, facing UCLA on Sun., Oct. 16 in Westwood.

  • STANFORD Cardinal (0-2-1, 3-6-2)For the 42nd time in series history, Stanford faced off with Bay Area rival, California, on Sat., Oct. 8, losing 1-0 in a tight match ... The Cardinal is now 0-2-1, 3-6-2 on the season ... Junior goalkeeper Andrew Kartunen registered four saves in goal, to bring his season total to 17, good enough to rank seventh in the Pac-10 ... Stanford is tied for fourth in the Conference in goals allowed, having only given up nine scores all season ... Of Stanford's six losses, five have been by one point ... The team will look to rebound this weekend, with matches against Washington on Fri., Oct. 14 and Oregon State on Sun., Oct. 16.

  • UCLA Bruins (3-1-0, 7-3-0)UCLA went on its first Conference road trip of the season, picking up one win and a loss in a 1-0 defeat of Washington on Fri., Oct. 7, followed up by a 1-0 edging by Oregon State just two days later ... The Bruins are 3-1-0, 7-3-0 and ranked as high as 11th in the Soccer Times poll ... Junior midfielder Patrick Ianni scored the game-winning goal against the Huskies on Friday, helping the team shutout its seventh opponent of the season ... Junior goalkeeper Eric Reed was credited with four saves in the UW match, bringing his season total to 28 ... Reed leads the Pac-10 in goals against average (0.34) and save percentage (.903) ... Despite outshooting OSU, 9-4, the Bruins could not put points on the board, losing 1-0 ... Freshman midfielder Sal Zizzo tallied two shots, while Ianni and sophomore forward Kamani Hill had one apiece ... UCLA will face Cal State Northridge in a non-conference meeting on Fri., Oct. 14, as well as having a Sun., Oct. 16 date with San Diego State in Westwood.

  • WASHINGTON Huskies (0-2-1, 6-3-1)Washington rebounded from a 1-0 loss against No. 12 UCLA on Fri., Oct. 7 to post a scoreless double overtime tie against 15th-ranked San Diego State on Sun., Oct. 9 and see its record to 0-2-1, 6-3-1 on the year ... The Huskies outshot the Aztecs 23-12 in the match, but the defensive effort by both teams left zeros on the scoreboard ... Junior defender Ty Harden and the UW defense held UCLA to just eight shots, allowing its only goal on a free kick ... Senior goalkeeper Chris Eylander made five saves in the SDSU game, registering his fourth shutout on the year ... Sophomore forward Ely Allen ranks second in the Pac-10 in shots per game (3.25) and fifth in total shots (26) ... Washington paces the Conference in shots, having attempted 161, good enough to average just over 16 per contest ... The Huskies take to the road to play Stanford on Fri., Oct. 14 and California, Sun., Oct. 16.


    WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon State freshman goalkeeper Packy Deenihan has been named the Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Oct. 4 - 10, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

    Deenihan, from Pleasanton, Calif., made two saves in the Beavers' 2-1 victory over No. 15 San Diego State, handing the Aztecs their first loss of the season. He added four saves in Oregon State's 1-0 win over No. 12 UCLA, which was the first time the Bruins have been shut out in 2005.

    As a starter, Deenihan is 7-1-4 with 64 saves and a 0.93 goals-against average. He is ranked 20th in the nation in saves per game (5.33) and is tied for 17th with his shots on goal save percentage (.842).

    Oregon State's two wins extends its unbeaten streak to 10 games, a new school record, with the last three wins coming over ranked Pac-10 teams. Oregon State is also riding a 10-game winning streak at home, dating back to last year, also an OSU record.

    The Beavers (3-0-0, 7-2-4) will travel to the Bay Area this weekend, facing California on Fri., Oct. 14 and Stanford on Sun., Oct. 16.

    This is Deenihan's first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and 11th weekly honor all-time for Oregon State.
