Five Pac-10 Schools Ranked Among Top-25 in National Preseason Polls

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- Five Pac-10 women's basketball teams -- STANFORD, UCLA, USC, ARIZONA STATE and ARIZONA -- are ranked among the Top-25 teams in the nation, according to two recently released 2005-06 preseason polls.
Stanford, the five-time defending Pac-10 Champion, is ranked eighth and 11th by Athlon and Lindy's, respectively. The Cardinal finished with a 17-1 league record last season, while advancing to the Elite Eight for the second time in as many years, before falling to eventual national finalist Michigan State in the Kansas City Regional final.
UCLA was tabbed by Lindy's to finish 16th nationally, while the Women of Troy came in at No. 21 in the same publication, along with earning a No. 16 ranking by Athlon. Arizona State, which made its first Sweet Sixteen appearance in 22 years in 2004-05, was picked 24th by Lindy's and 18th by Athlon. Rounding out the five teams is Arizona who picked up the 20th spot in the Athlon publication. The Wildcats are coming off their third consecutive 20-win season and eighth in the last 10 years.
Pac-10 women's basketball officially tips-off on Mon., Oct. 31 as USC, OREGON and WASHINGTON STATE each have exhibition contests scheduled.
