No. 13 Cal Volleyball Loses at No. 12 Arizona, 3-0

TUCSON, ARIZ. - The No. 13-ranked California women's volleyball team (13-4, 6-2) fell to No. 12-ranked Arizona (14-2, 6-1) 3-0 (30-24, 30-27, 30-28) Friday night at the McKale Center in Tucson. It was the first 3-0 loss for the Golden Bears this season after only suffering 3-2 losses to San Diego, Nevada and No. 2-ranked Washington.
Cal was led by senior Alicia Powers' 13 kills and .360 hitting percentage (13k, 4e, 25att) and a match-high 17 digs by junior libero Jillian Davis. Sophomore Angie Pressey added nine kills and junior setter Samantha Carter finished with 29 assists, 10 digs and hit .857 with six kills and no errors in seven attempts.
The Wildcats were led by senior outside hitter Jennifer Abernathy's 12 kills. Abernathy is the younger sister of former Cal volleyball standout Gabrielle Abernathy, who competed for the Bears from 2000-2004. Junior Kristina Baum added 11 kills and hit .385 (11k, 1e, 26att) for the Wildcats.
Cal will next host Bay Area rival and 2004 national champion Stanford in The Big Spike, Friday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. at Haas Pavilion. The No. 3-ranked Cardinal had fallen to Arizona, 3-2, on Thursday night.
