UW Women Tabbed To Finish Seventh In Pac-10 Coaches' Poll

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Washington women's basketball was picked to finish seventh in the 2005-06 conference standings according to the Pac-10 preseason coaches' poll, the league announced Friday.
Five-time defending conference champion Stanford was voted the favorite to win this year's Pac-10 title, receiving nine of 10 first-place votes as USC received the remaining first-place nod. Arizona State was tabbed to finish third, followed closely by UCLA. Oregon just beat out Arizona for fifth place, while the Huskies were picked seventh, followed by California, Washington State and Oregon State.
The Huskies finished seventh in last year's Pac-10 standings with a 9-9 record, 14-16 overall. Washington returns 14 letterwinners and all five starters from that squad led by senior co-captains Kayla Burt (Sr., G), Nicole Castro (Sr., G) and Kristen O'Neill (Sr., G/F).
The Huskies, who open official practice Friday evening, will tune-up for the regular season hosting an exhibition with the Northwest All-Stars, Sunday, Nov. 6, at 2 p.m. They will make their official debut with a tough season opening road trip at Alabama, Friday, Nov. 18 (3:30 p.m. PT) and Florida State, Sunday, Nov. 20 (10 a.m. PT).
