No. 2 Volleyball Sweeps Oregon For 17th Straight Victory

EUGENE, Ore.-- The second-ranked Washington volleyball team handed Oregon a 3-0 loss this evening to improve to 17-0 overall and 8-0 in the Pac-10. The Ducks dip to 10-9 overall and 0-8 in conference play. Washington has tallied 3-0 sweeps in 15 of 17 matches this season and has lost just three games.

Junior All-American setter Courtney Thompson dished 43 assists to become the first UW player to amass 4,000 career assists. Thompson, who now has 4,041 career assists, led a balanced attack tonight with four players scoring kills in the double figures and the team hitting .460.

Washington held advantages in kills (54-28), assists (46-25), aces (5-0), digs (48-30) and blocks (11-3). The Huskies made just eight errors on the night, while Oregon made 23.

Christal Morrison headlined the UW offense with 13 kills, while Alesha Dessing had 12, Sanja Tomasevic added 11 and Brie Hagerty chipped in 10.

Candace Lee anchored the defense with 16 digs, while Deesing and Tomasevic each chipped in five blocks.

The Huskies round out the first half of the Pac-10 season Saturday night at Oregon State. Head coach Jim McLaughlin is one win away from his 100th victory at Washington.
