Off the trail with cross country's Meghan Leonard

Meet cross country runner Meghan Leonard. The redshirt freshman from Newberg, Ore., holds the WSU school record for a freshman in the steeplechase and placed 13th in the event at the 2005 Pac-10 Championships. As the number two runner on the women's cross country team, she has made an outstanding impact this season with her contributions as a competitor and a teammate.

My first impression of Pullman: It's in the middle of nowhere.

Proudest running moment: At the dual track meet against UW last year I set the freshman school record in the steeplechase.

Early morning run or afternoon workout: Afternoon workout. I enjoy speed workouts the most.

Most inspirational teammate: Collier Lawrence

Pre-race meal: Oatmeal and a banana.

First person you call after a race: My mom

Goals for the Pac-10 Cross Country Championships (October 29 at Tucson): I want to finish in the top 20, and our team wants to beat UCLA and UW.

Toughest race you've run in college and why: The Pre-Nationals course in Terre Haute, Ind., is the toughest race I've been in because there are so many girls out there, you don't know where you're at.

What's best about having JD as a coach: He's realistic about things and he's really laid back.

I can't go anywhere without my: Cell phone

Pullman's best restaurant is: Rancho Viejo

Famous person I'd love to meet: Shania Twain, she's my favorite singer.

Best concert I've ever been to: Jack Johnson

Favorite ice cream flavor: Strawberry shortcake

My worst habit is: Biting my nails.

Best thing about being a Cougar: I like the small town and the school spirit.

Favorite place to shop: adidas stores

Favorite color: Purple

TV show I always watch: The OC, I like Seth Cohen.

Dream job ten years from now: Working with children in a hospital. I'm a nutrition major so something in that area.

Pet peeves: I hate it when people breathe on me.

One word to describe myself: Random

Most embarrassing moment: While I was making fun of Haley (Paul), I stepped on my pants on an early morning run and fell over, ripping them badly in the process. I left the pants on the side of the road and kept running.

What do you miss about home: My dog.
