WSU Tennis Concludes Play at ITA NW Regional

STANFORD, Calif. - The Washington State Cougars Tennis Team ended the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northwest Regional with two student athletes reaching the round of 16. Marjolein van de Ven and Ekaterina Burduli both reached the round of 16 in singles and doubles play.
WSU junior van de Ven started Saturday's play with a victory against California's Christina Visico, 6-4, Ret. Visico is No. 47 by the ITA giving van de Ven her first ranked victory as a Cougar. During the round of 16 van de Ven suffered a defeat against Lucia Sainz of Fresno State, 6-7 (5), 6-0, 6-2.
WSU sophomore Burduli won her first match against Santa Clara's Kelly Leathers, 6-4, 6-4. Burduli then faced No. 79 Celia Durkin of Stanford. Durkin got the best of Burduli, 6-1, 6-4.
'I'm proud of the way we fought today.' WSU Head Coach Lisa Hart said. 'We're excited to begin working on preparation for our dual match season.'
The end of the ITA Northwest Regional concludes all tournaments and invitationals for the Cougars. Dual matches will begin Jan. 17, against Idaho in Pullman at 3 p.m.
