Stanford, Calif. - The 2006 Stanford Baseball team scored seven runs in the bottom of the second inning and added five more in the sixth to cruise to a 15-3 victory in the school's annual Alumni Game played Sunday at Sunken Diamond. Chris Lewis' grandslam capped the seven-run Cardinal second, while Joey August hit a three-run homer to key the five-run Cardinal sixth. Starting pitcher Rex Petrill (3.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 SO) picked up the victory on the mound.
Stanford's Jeff Whitlow (2-3) was the only player in the game for either team with more than one hit. August, Jeremy Bleich, Brendan Domaracki, John Hester, Brian Juhl, Lewis, Brent Milleville, Chris Minaker, Randy Molina, Cord Phelps, Jim Rapoport, Michael Taylor and Austin Yount each had one hit for the Cardinal. Detter, Olmstead and Paul Zuvella each added one RBI. Doubles by Smith and Young were the team's lone two extra-base hits.Grant Escue (2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 3 SO), Blake Hancock (2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER) and David Stringer (2.0 IP, 1 H, 1 SO) pitched in relief for the Cardinal.

Lee Plemel (1.0 IP, 2 H, 1 K) started the contest for the Alumni, while Cliff Kalinowski (1.0 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 BB), Austin (2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 2 K, 2 BB), Al Arthur (1.0 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 SO), John Yandle (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 SO) and Mario Iglesias (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 BB) all saw relief work for the Alumni.
The Alumni struck first with a pair of runs off Petrill in the top of the second when Detter and Zuvela drove in runs during back-to-back at bats with an RBI single and sacrifice fly. Olmstead had started the inning with a walk and Lowrie singled two batters later to give the Alumni runners on first and second base with one out.
Stanford came right back with its seven-run second frame to take a 7-2 lead. The Cardinal took advantage of three walks and a hit batsmen by Marenghi, scoring their first three runs on a passed ball, wild pitch and RBI single by Minaker before Lewis cleared the bases with his grandslam.
The Cardinal extended its margin to 9-2 with two more in the third. Molina walked to lead off the inning and scored on Milleville's RBI triple before a sacrifice fly from Boes.
Stanford added another run in the fourth when Domaracki singled with two outs and scored on a Molina double.
The Alumni picked up its only other run in the sixth when Austin led off with an infield hit and scored three batters later on Olmstead's RBI single.
Juhl doubled and J.J. Jelmini walked to lead off Stanford's six-run sixth before August's long ball. Yount was hit by a pitch to restart the rally. Back-to-back one-out singles from Bleich and Whitlow loaded the bases to set the stage for a two-RBI single by Phelps.
Dick Knudtsen's three-RBI double with two outs in the top of the second inning capped a five-run frame for the visiting team and proved to be the winning margin in a 5-3 victory over the home squad in a three-inning Old Timers Game. Jim Coate allowed just one hit in a scoreless first inning to earn the victory, while Nick Peterson scattered four hits and three runs over the final 2.0 frames to close out the victory.
