Huskies Advance To ITA Northwest Regional Finals

SANTA CLARA, CALIF. - Washington junior Alex Slovic advanced to the singles final and with junior Daniel Chu also advanced to the doubles final at the 2005 Wilson/ITA Northwest Regional Championships at Santa Clara University, Monday.

In the singles semifinal, No. 2 seed Slovic battled through to a three-set win over ninth-seed James Pade from Stanford, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Slovic will face the No. 1 seed, K.C. Corkery of Stanford, Tuesday at 11 a.m. for the regional singles title and a spot in the ITA National Indoor Championships, held Nov. 3-6. It marks the third time in the last four years the Huskies have had a player in the regional singles final.

In the doubles semifinal, Slovic and Chu came back from a 3-0 deficit to defeat Lennart Maack and Daniel Sebescen from Cal, 8-6. The top-seeded UW duo will face Scott Kennel and James Redpath from Portland in the championship Monday at 11 a.m., the same pair that ousted UW doubles team Klaus Jank and Andy Kuharszky from Monday's other semifinal. Jank and Kuharszky, after leading 3-0, fell by the same score, 8-6.
