Mellouli, Soni Lead USC's Opening Effort

Senior Ous Mellouli and freshman Rebecca Soni were victorious as USC's men's and women's swim teams opened the 2005-2006 season at the Pacific Invite on Friday (Oct. 28) in Stockton, Calif.

Mellouli won time trials in the 200y free (1:38.83) and the 1650y free (15:34.66) while Soni won the 100y breast (1:02.61). Soni was also second in the 400y IM (4:22.06).

Mellouli's win in the mile led a 1-2-3-4 finish for the Trojans. He was followed to the wall by sophomore William Antisdale (16:05.32), senior Tyler Storie (16:09.46) and freshman Evan Marcus (16:12.06).

Freshman Melissa McIntyre finished behind Soni in the 100y breast (1:03.11) while fellow freshman Sarah Rockwell was second in the 50y free (24.22).

USC won both 400y free relays. The quartet of freshman Rachael Waller, McIntyre, junior Cait Connealy and Rockwell won in 3:30.19 while the men's squad of junior Sean Sussex, senior Tyler Panos, sophomore Tyler Wilson and Mellouli touched first in 3:06.49.

The meet concludes on Saturday (Oct. 29).
