WSU Second After First Session Of Pacific Invitational

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Washington State swim team posted eight top-five finishes including a win and a second place finish by WSU relay teams as the Cougars competed in the first session of the Pacific Tiger Invitational. Cougars earn 240.5 points finishing second behind USC (255).

Erin McCleave, Monika Povilonyte, Bryn Mooney and Katie Van Horne combined to posted a time 1:46.00 in the 200 medley relay capturing the top spot in the event over teams from Pacific, Denver, BYU and Nevada. McCleave and Van Horn along with Kayli Changstrom and Jamie MacLeod swam to a second place finish in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:32.73.

McCleave had two top-three finishes in individual events placing second in the 200 freestyle (1:51.86) and third in the 50 freestyle (24:45). Changstrom collected third and fourth place finishes in the 400 IM (4:25.04) and 1650 freestyle (17:28.98) respectively.

Other WSU swimmers with top-five showings include Monika Povilonyte who finished third in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.37) and freshman Elyse Peterson who posted fifth place time in the 50 freestyle (24.66).

The invitational meet included men's and women's teams from Division I, II and III schools and concludes Saturday, Oct. 29. Washington State will not compete in the second session of the meet as they will continue their California road trip, taking on San Jose State in a dual meet Saturday, Oct. 29 at noon at the SJS Aquatics Center.
