Husky Golfers Off to Slow Start at CordeValle Collegiate

San Martin, CA - The 11th-ranked Washington men's golf team found more tricks than treats during the opening day of play at UCLA's CordeValle Collegiate in San Martin, Calif. The Huskies shot rounds of 292 and 296 to figure 11th in the 16-team field after the first 36 holes of play.

The Huskies trail tournament-leading Northwestern by 24 shots. The Wildcats carded a 1-under 287 during the morning round and then took a one-shot lead over UCLA with a 11-under 277 in the afternoon. At 565, the Bruins are 10 shots ahead of third place Arkansas.

Erik Olson and Zach Bixler posted Washington's best scores, finishing the first two rounds at 5-over 147. They were tied for 30th overall. Alex Prugh was one shot back at 148 and James Lepp and Sterling Clark were 47th at 150. Lepp's opening-round 71 was Washington's only score under par during the day.

Northwestern's Kyle Moore used a second-round 65 to take the stroke play lead at 6-under 136 through the first day of play. He opened with a 1-under 71. UCLA's Daniel Im was second at 138 and California's Michael Wilson was third at 139.
