USC Women Start It Up With Exhibition Action
Oct. 31, 2005
The USC women's basketball team, under the leadership of second-year head coach Mark Trakh, gets an early jump on the 2005-06 season with a pair of exhibition games coming fast. The Women of Troy host Vanguard University on Monday (Oct. 31) at 7 p.m. at the Lyon Center. A week later, there's one more exhibition display on tap against Team Concept on Nov. 7, also at 7 p.m. at the Lyon Center.
The Trojans have already popped up on most everyone's radars for the upcoming 2005-06 season. Last season's 20-11 overall record, second-place finish in the Pac-10 and second-round NCAA Tournament appearance -- coupled with a daunting 10 returners back -- have translated into several preseason rankings for the Women of Troy, as well as a No. 2 pick in the Pacific-10. In the larger 2005-06 scene, USC has also been chosen among the elite top 25 teams in the nation. The Women of Troy join five other Pac-10 schools in the national preseason polls. In the Athlon preseason poll, USC picked up its highest ranking at No. 16, while Lindy's has the 2005-06 Trojans at No. 21.
Add to that 10 players from last season's roster, one highly regarded recruit and a complete coaching staff with their first season at Troy tucked solidly under their belts, and the USC women are several big steps closer to hauling in some serious success under the guidance of Trakh and his staff.
The Trojans will open the regular season in style with a trip to Hawai'i for the Waikiki Beach Marriott Classic in Honolulu from Nov. 19-20. There, USC will face the host Rainbows and also Eastern Washington. Two more road games follow for the Women of Troy before returning to Los Angeles for their home opener against TCU on Dec. 4 at the Sports Arena.
