Women's Rowing To Compete At Head Of The Marina, Newport Autumn Rowing Festival

THIS WEEK -- The UCLA Women's Rowing team will compete at the Head of the Marina on Saturday and at the Newport Autumn Rowing Festival on Sunday.
HEAD OF THE MARINA -- On Saturday, November 5th, the UCLA Women's Rowing team will travel to Marina Del Rey to race in the event hosted by the California Yacht Club. The Bruins will be entering two Varsity Eight Squads in the Open division, scheduled to compete at 8:45 am, and one Novice Eight Squad, scheduled to compete at 8:20 am.
Competing in the Varsity 'A' boat will be Kirsten Potenza, Liz Pallas-Jacobs, Jessica Fritz, Erin Rice, Patricia Dudziec, Vanessa Teff, Erin Haggerty, Elizabeth Lee, and Leah Wachtel. The Varsity 'B' team will include Megan McQuown, Jessica Holt, Brittany Merchant, Elizabeth Herron, Alexandra Howard, Clara Cartwright, Larisa Pender-Healy, Alexis Kalionzes, and Jaclyn Roewe. The Novice Eight will be represented by Chanel Suares, Katja Wanberg, Victoria Kaso, Kerry Kilduff, Candace Ferguson, Jennifer Weber, Laura Garnett, Bree Hemingway, and Meleana Carr.
Last season at the Head of the Marina, the Bruin's Varsity 'A' team won the Women's Open Eight with the best overall time of any Women's Crew at the event - 19:20:00.

NEWPORT AUTUMN ROWING FESTIVAL -- On Sunday, November 6th, the team travels to Newport Beach to compete at the annual Newport Autumn Rowing Festival. Two Women's Varsity Open Eight crews will be racing at 8:00 am, with one Women's Novice Eight crew racing at 10:00 am.
The same rosters from Saturday will be entered on Sunday, with the exception of McQuown and Potenza, who will switch boats.
Last year, the Bruins had a strong presence at the meet, finishing second in a field of 23 collegiate entries. The Varsity 'A' squad finished the 2.7 mile course with a time of 17:05.

Looking Ahead -- UCLA will compete at the Head of the Lake in Seattle, Wash. on Sunday, November 13th. That will be the last race of the fall season. The Bruins will return to action on March 11 vs. Loyola Marymount for the start of the spring season.
