Nov. 2, 2005
The second-ranked UCLA women's golf team enjoyed a record-setting day in the desert, winning the Las Vegas Founders Women's Collegiate Showdown at The Anthem Golf Course.
The Bruins shattered the school record they set on Monday, posting a final score of 276, 12-under par. Their 54-hole team score of 840 (-24) also set a school record. Kent State finished a distant second at 867 (+3), followed by third place Pepperdine at 870 (+6). Arizona placed fourth at 872 (+8) and host UNLV was fifth at 874 (+10).
The Bruins' score of 24-under par 840 set a tournament record as did their final round team score of 276.
Junior All-American Hannah Jun fired a final round 66 (-6), a personal collegiate best and won medalist honors with a three-round total of 206 (-10), which also set a tournament record. Her 54-hole total is a school record, beating the previous score of 207 (-9) set by Charlotte Mayorkas in 2004. Jun's final round score was one stroke shy of the school record.
Jun was five-under par through 11 holes on Wednesday, but came to the 17th at four-under following a bogey at the par 5 13th. She birdied the par 3 17th and the par 4 18th to finish at six-under par, beating teammate Jane Park by two strokes.
The victory was Jun's second collegiate title and capped a Fall season that produced three Top 25 finishes.
Park started the day at five-under par, tied for second place. She carded a 69 (-3) and finished alone as the runner-up. She played the outward nine on Wednesday in four-under par 33, but following a bogey at No. 10, could not make another birdie.
Freshman Tiffany Joh posted her third straight round under par, carding a 69 (-3), despite bogeys on two of the last three holes. She tied for third at 210 (-6).
Sophomore Amie Cochran tied for 11th at even par 216. She posted a 72 (E) in the final round.
Senior Susie Mathews tied for 16th at 217 (+1) after carding a second straight 73 (+1).
