Doubles Team Loses in ITA National Indoor Quarters

Nov. 4, 2005

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Doubles tandem Alex Slovic and Daniel Chu lost today in the quarterfinal round of the ITA National Indoor Championships, hosted by Ohio State. The pair of juniors fell to the tournament's top seed. Slovic also lost his singles consolation match, ending the tournament for the Huskies.

Slovic and Chu were facing the current top team in college tennis, Marco Born and Andreas Siljestrom of Middle Tennessee. Born and Siljestrom are both listed at 6'9' tall, making them extremely difficult at the net and on serve. The two Blue Raiders are looking to win their second major title of the year, after winning the ITA All-American Championships in October.

In today's match, Slovic and Chu lost serve only once but could not get a service break of their own and fell 8-5.

Slovic then faced Virginia's Treat Huey in the consolation singles draw. After a competitive first set that Slovic lost in a tiebreak, Huey controlled things in set two, winning 6-1.

The fall season is now over for the men's squad. The men will take the courts again as a team for the start of dual play in January.
