KC Corkery Advances to Semifinals
Nov. 4, 2005
KC Corkery played in his first career national quarterfinal this afternoon and will play in his first semifinal tomorrow, after defeating two opponents today and advancing to the final four at the ITA National Indoor Championships in Columbus, Ohio.
Corkery reached the round of 16 at the 2003 and 2004 NCAA Championships, but tomorrow he will face No.2 Ludovic Walter of Duke in the semifinals for a shot at his first title match.
Matt Bruch became the first freshman to reach the ITA National Indoor quarterfinals, since Baylor's Benjamin Becker did so in 2001, by winning his first match of the day, with a 7-6 (5), 7-6 (2) victory over 43rd-ranked Erling Tveit of Mississippi. The tournament ended for him this afternoon, though, as the Cardinal freshman fell in the quarters to the No. 3 player in the country, Ben Kohlloeffel of UCLA.
In doubles, Corkery and teammate James Pade won their match in the first round of the consolation bracket, defeating Andre Begemann and Ricardo Omanna from Santa Fe College, 8-4.
