Hardy Named to 2006 World Championship Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Cal freshman Jessica Hardy was named to the USA swimming team that will compete at the FINA World Championships, April 5-9, in Shanghai, China.
Hardy, who set a world record in the 100-meter breast at the 2005 World Championships in Montreal, will join 12 Olympians on the USA swim team, a squad that boasts a collective 142 medals from previous international competition.
Hardy has competed in Cal's first four dual meets this season, winning five events overall. She is the first swimmer to enter Cal with a world record since Mary T. Meagher in 1983.
The Short Course World Championships will be contested in Shanghai Qi Zhong Forest Sports City in a 25-meter pool, half the long course Olympic distance.
