  • With its 1-1 double overtime tie with CALIFORNIA on Sun., Nov. 6, UCLA clinched its fourth-consecutive Pac-10 title with a record of 6-1-2, 11-3-3 on the year, with two regular season matches left ... The Bruins will represent the Conference in the NCAA Tournament as the automatic qualifier ... UCLA was the first team in the nation to clinch a berth in the NCAA 64-team bracket.

  • The Pac-10 regular season will conclude this weekend as STANFORD plays at CALIFORNIA, UCLA heads to SAN DIEGO STATE and OREGON STATE heads north to WASHINGTON ... The Bruins also have a non-conference contest against San Diego on Thurs., Nov. 10.

  • Defensive-minded: The Pac-10 has the three top goalies in the nation in UCLA's Eric Reed, SDSU's Tally Hall and California's Eric Kronberg ... The trio rank No. 1-3, respectively in the NCAA charts for save percentage (1. Reed - 0.927, 2. Hall - 0.911 and 3. Kronberg - 0.871).

  • Bears' senior forward Calen Carr scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 overtime victory over SDSU on Fri., Nov. 4, notching his 10th goal and sixth game-winner on the season ... It marked the first time during head coach Kevin Grimes' six-year tenure, that a player has ever recorded 10 goals in one season.

  • In non-conference action, Washington pulled off a 3-2 come-from-behind win over Gonzaga on Sun., Nov. 6 ... Freshman midfielder George John scored the game-winner and assisted on the Huskies' first goal of the afternoon.

  • In the rankings this week: Three Pac-10 squads are in the Top-25 polls, including UCLA - 7 (NSCAA/adidas), 6 (Soccer America) and 8 (Soccer Times); California - 9/15/9 and San Diego State NR/18/22.


  • CALIFORNIA Golden Bears (5-3-1, 12-3-2)California picked up a 2-1 overtime win over San Diego State on Fri., Nov. 4, while notching a 1-1 double overtime tie against UCLA on Sun., Nov. 6 to improve to 5-3-1 in the Conference, and 12-3-2 overall ... Regardless of what happens in their final weekend of league play, the Bears will finish in second place in the Pac-10 ... Senior forward Calen Carr, who paces the Conference in almost every offensive category this season, scored the game-winning goal against the Aztecs on Friday, tallying his 10th goal of the season, six of which have been game-winners ... It marks the first time in head coach Kevin Grimes' six-year tenure that a player has recorded 10 goals in one season ... Carr also assisted on Cal's equalizer against UCLA on Sunday ... The team, ranked as high as ninth in both the NSCAA/adidas and Soccer Times poll, is first in the Pac-10 in points (83), goals (31) and goals per game (1.82) ... Cal will host traditional rival, Stanford, in its final regular season match on Sun., Nov. 13.

  • OREGON STATE Beavers (4-5-0, 8-7-4)Oregon State is 4-5-0, 8-7-4 on the season, owning sole possession of third place in the Pac-10 and looking for a win this weekend and an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament ... The Beavers will face Washington on Sun., Nov. 13 in a rematch of both teams' Conference opener earlier this season ... OSU took the first meeting by way of a 1-0 edging ... Senior defender Alex Asai leads the Pac-10 in assists and assists per game, having totaled eight this season, good enough for a 0.42 average ... Freshman goalkeeper Packy Deenihan also paces the league in saves with 85 on the year, a 4.72 average ... Sophomore midfielder Brett Gardner was named to CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team ... Gardner, a business administration major, has a 3.82 GPA.

  • SAN DIEGO STATE Aztecs (2-2-5, 9-2-6)San Diego State dropped a close 2-1 overtime loss to California on Fri., Nov. 4, but rebounded to post a 0-0 double overtime tie with Stanford on Sun., Nov. 6 ... The Aztecs, who are ranked as high as 18th in the Soccer America poll, are 2-2-5 in the Conference, 9-2-6 overall ... Junior goalkeeper Tally Hall continues to have a banner year in the net, posting six saves against the Cardinal, while notching his 12th shutout on the season, improving his SDSU single-season mark in that category ... Hall's 0.911 shots on goal save percentage ranks second in the nation, while his 0.384 goals against average is also bested by just one other keeper in the country ... San Diego State will host UCLA in a Sun., Nov. 13 match ... The previous meeting between the two teams this season ended in a 0-0 double overtime tie.

  • STANFORD Cardinal (1-6-2, 4-10-3)Stanford had a solid weekend, taking the No. 7 team in the nation, UCLA, right down to the wire, as well as posting a 0-0 double overtime tie with the 16th-ranked San Diego State Aztecs ... The Cardinal is now 1-6-2, 4-10-3 on the season ... Stanford notched two scoreless halves against the Bruins, but could not hold on in a 1-0 overtime loss ... Junior goalkeeper Andrew Kartunen recorded four saves against UCLA, and picked up another in his shutout over SDSU ... Stanford outshot the Aztecs, 13-6 in the match, including a team-high, five, from sophomore forward Dan Shapiro ... Three Cardinal seniors - Cooper McKee, Bronson McDonald and K.C. Coyne all played in their final home matches ... Stanford will conclude the regular season with a Sun., Nov. 13 match at rival, California.

  • UCLA Bruins (6-1-2, 11-3-3)UCLA clinched its fourth-consecutive Pac-10 title with a 1-1 double overtime tie with second-place California on Sun., Nov. 6 ... The Bruins also posted a 1-0 overtime win over Stanford on Fri., Nov. 4 to improve to 6-1-2 in the Conference, 11-3-3 overall ... UCLA was the first team in the nation to clinch an automatic berth into the NCAA 64-team bracket ... Sophomore forward Kamani Hill scored the Bruins only goal against the Bears, while freshman forward Maxwell Griffin posted the game-winner over the Cardinal on Friday ... Junior goalkeeper Eric Reed tallied four saves against Stanford, including three in the second half to record his 11th shutout on the year ... Reed's shutout streat of 459 minutes was snapped at Cal, but his goals against average of 0.26 is tied for the lowest single-season average in NCAA history ... UCLA has one non-conference match against San Diego on Thurs., Nov. 10 and will wrap up regular season play with a Sun., Nov. 13 match at San Diego State.

  • WASHINGTON Huskies (3-4-2, 10-6-2)Washington dropped a 1-0 non-conference match to Portland on Fri., Nov. 4, but rebounded with a 3-2 come-from-behind win over Gonzaga on Sun., Nov. 6 to improve to 10-6-2 overall, 3-4-2 in the Conference ... Freshman midfielder George John scored the game-winner and assisted on the first goal of the afternoon in the Huskies' win over the Bulldogs ... John's goal was the first of his collegiate career ... UW scored all three of its goals in the second half, including two in the last five minutes of regulation ... Sophomore forward Ely Allen scored the equalizer at 85:05, while sophomore defender Nick Loveless first put Washington on the scoreboard ... Allen is tied for fourth in the Conference, along with teammate Spencer Schmidt with 42 shots ... The Huskies will face Oregon State on Sun., Nov. 13, in their final regular season match of 2005 ... Earlier this season, the Beavers notched a 1-0 win in Corvallis.


    WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA junior goalkeeper Eric Reed has been named the Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Nov. 1 - 7, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

    Reed, from Mission Viejo, Calif., led UCLA to its fourth consecutive Conference title with a 1-0 shutout win at Stanford and a 1-1 tie at California over the weekend. Reed grabbed four saves in the Bruins' win on the Farm, including three in the second half. The shutout was his fifth consecutive and 11th overall. Against the Golden Bears, Reed made two saves, including a crucial save in the first overtime period. Although his shutout streak was snapped at 459 minutes, he preserved the tie to secure the Pac-10 title for UCLA.

    Reed is tied for the lowest single-season goals against average in NCAA history at 0.262. He enters this week ranked No. 1 in the nation in GAA and save percentage (0.927).

    No. 6 UCLA (6-1-2, 11-3-3) will travel south this week, facing San Diego on Thurs., Nov. 10, and wrapping up the Pac-10 season at San Diego State on Sun., Nov. 13. The Bruins' league title earns them the Pac-10's automatic berth into the NCAA postseason tournament.

    This is Reed's first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and 25th weekly honor all-time for UCLA.
