UCLA GOALKEEPER ERIC REED NAMED PAC-10 MEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA junior goalkeeper Eric Reed has been named the Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Nov. 1 - 7, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Reed, from Mission Viejo, Calif., led UCLA to its fourth consecutive Conference title with a 1-0 shutout win at Stanford and a 1-1 tie at California over the weekend. Reed grabbed four saves in the Bruins' win on the Farm, including three in the second half. The shutout was his fifth consecutive and 11th overall. Against the Golden Bears, Reed made two saves, including a crucial save in the first overtime period. Although his shutout streak was snapped at 459 minutes, he preserved the tie to secure the Pac-10 title for UCLA.
Reed is tied for the lowest single-season goals against average in NCAA history at 0.262. He enters this week ranked No. 1 in the nation in GAA and save percentage (0.927).
No. 6 UCLA (6-1-2, 11-3-3) will travel south this week, facing San Diego on Thurs., Nov. 10, and wrapping up the Pac-10 season at San Diego State on Sun., Nov. 13. The Bruins' league title earns them the Pac-10's automatic berth into the NCAA postseason tournament.
This is Reed's first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and 25th weekly honor all-time for UCLA.
ALSO NOMINATED: Calen Carr, Sr., F, CAL; George John, Fr., MF, WASH.
