Soccer Travels to Los Angeles for NCAA First Round
LOS ANGELES - The University of Colorado women's soccer team will make its third straight appearance in the NCAA Championship Tournament this Friday, Nov. 11 when they take on the UC Riverside Highlanders at 8:30 p.m. MST at Drake Stadium at UCLA.
Colorado, the second place finisher in the Big 12 Conference and Big 12 Tournament, was one of five teams to make the NCAAs out of the Big 12. Texas A&M, Nebraska, Iowa State and Texas all earned bids. A&M, Nebraska and Texas will all host first and second round games, while Iowa State will travel to Nebraska for their first match.
The Buffs are 12-7-3 on the season after falling in double overtime to Texas A&M in the championship game of the Big 12 Tournament on Sunday by a score of 2-1. It was Colorado's first appearance in the Big 12 championship game.
This is Colorado's third appearance all-time in the NCAA Tournament, also the third in a row. In 2003 the Buffs fell at BYU, and in 2004 they defeated Utah 3-0 before falling to Portland 3-0 in the second round.
The other two teams in the subregional are host and No. 1 seed UCLA and Mississippi Valley State. They will play at 6 p.m. MST on Friday. The winners of the Friday matches will play on Sunday at 2 p.m. MST. There will be no television, but Buff fans can check out live stats on the UCLA website, which can be found at uclabruins.collegesports.com.
Colorado and UCR have never met before, while the Buffs and UCLA met earlier this season in the UCLA Women's Cup, with the Bruins beating the Buffaloes 2-0.
