Nov. 9, 2005

What's Happening This Week: The Washington State University women's rowing team anchors its fall season Sunday, Nov. 13, at the Head of the Lake Regatta on the Montlake Cut in Seattle, Wash. ... the 4,700 meter race, hosted by the University of Washington, starts at the Canoe House on Lake Washington, then travels through Portage Bay and the Montlake Cut, onto Lake Union and ends with a 250 meter sprint into the Lake Washington Ship Canal...visit www.lakewashingtonrowing.com for more information and results.

Experience at the Head of the Lake: Twenty-two rowers on this year's roster competed at the 2004 Head of the Lake, including 13 rowers and one coxswain from the varsity and second varsity eight boats that raced at the event...all four rowers from the 2004 varsity four 'A' will also make the return trip to Seattle.

WSU Head Coach Jane LaRiviere on Head of the Lake Regatta: 'It's the premier fall regatta west of the Mississippi. We have some good out of conference representation in Yale, Syracuse and Duke. The team is excited to finish strong. There's an added kick to it because there's Washington, Stanford, Oregon State, and UCLA. It's the first time we're going to see what our conference rivals are up

Competition Déjà vu: The 11-team field for the Head of the Lake includes three crews the Cougars rowed against Oct. 23, when WSU finished 10th at the Head of the Charles: Duke (16th), Syracuse (25th), and Yale (6th)...five schools that competed in the 2005 NCAA Championships will also race in Seattle, most notably last year's national champion, California.
