Amy Rodriguez Earns National Honors On Teams Of The Week
Nov. 10, 2005
Freshman forward Amy Rodriguez became the first Trojan since 2002 to be named to Soccer America's Team of the Week, and also earned a place on SoccerBuzz's Elite Team of the Week after scoring both game-winning goals for USC in the final weekend of Pac-10 play. She and the No. 16 Women of Troy now move onto the NCAA Tournament, opening action Friday (Nov. 11) against Gonzaga at 1 p.m. at Cal State Fullerton.
Rodriguez drilled the golden goal in overtime against Arizona State on Nov. 4 and then scored in the 88th minute of play against then-No. 23 Arizona on Nov. 6 to help launch USC past both teams in the conference race and lock down sole possession of third place. Her weekend's efforts moved Rodriguez into the all-time top 10 with four game-winning goals this season. She now holds a team-best nine goals on the year, along with 25 points.
Rodriguez was also named Pac-10 Player of the Week this week -- also the first honor for the Women of Troy since 2002.
The Women of Troy kick off the NCAA Tournament on Friday (Nov. 11) with a first-round game against Gonzaga at 5 p.m. at Cal State Fullerton. The NCAA second round match will be held Sunday (Nov. 13) at 1 p.m.
