No. 11/10 Stanford Hosts Love & Basketball on Sunday

Stanford, Calif. - Stanford open the 2005-06 season next week at the Minnesota Subway Classic, but the Cardinal will host Love & Basketball this weekend in its final preparations for the upcoming season. Stanford, ranked No. 11 in the Associated Press poll and No. 10 in the USA Today/ESPN/WBCA coaches' poll, will host the exhibition contest on Sunday, Nov. 13 at 2 p.m. in Maples.
In 2004-05, Stanford finished the season with a 32-3 record, a top-five ranking, its second-straight Elite Eight appearance, its fifth-straight Pac-10 title and third-straight Pac-10 Tournament Title.
This season, the Cardinal has been picked by the coaches and the media to defend its conference crown, and sophomore Candice Wiggins has been named to the Preseason Watch List for the Wooden Award and the Wade Trophy. Wiggins and junior center Brooke Smith were also named to the preseason All-Pac-10 team.
Head coach Tara VanDerveer returns for her 20th season at the helm of the Stanford program. The third winningest coach in Division Women's Basketball, she owns an overall record of 634-170 (.708) in 26 years as a head coach, while her record at Stanford stands at 482-119 (.801) in 19 years.
Stanford will tip off against Long Island in the season-opener next Saturday, Nov. 19, when the Cardinal travels to Minneapolis, Minn., for the Subway Classic. The Cardinal and the Blackbirds will match up at 1 p.m. (CT) on Saturday, and Stanford will challenge San Francisco or No. 16/17 Minnesota on Sunday.
