Pac-10 Names Women's Soccer All-Conference Teams

ARIZONA senior midfielder Mallory Miller was named Pac-10 Player of the Year, USC forward Amy Rodriguez was named Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and CALIFORNIA'S Kevin Boyd was named Pac-10 Coach of the Year, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

PAC-10 PLAYER OF THE YEAR --MALLORY MILLER, ARIZONAMiller, a senior midfielder from Tucson, Ariz., was a second team All-Pac-10 selection in 2004 and an honorable mention selection in 2003. She finishes the regular season leading the Conference in points (39), points per game (2.05), goals (17) and goals per game (0.89). Miller also ranks in the Top-10 in shots, shots per game, assists, assists per game and game-winning goals. Nationally, Miller ranks 15th in points per game and is tied for ninth in goals per game. She has helped guide the Wildcats to an overall record of 9-7-3, a tie for fifth place in the Pac-10 (4-4-1) and the program's second straight NCAA Tournament appearance. Named Pac-10 Player of the Week on Oct. 11, Miller was also named to the Soccer America Team of the Week and Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week for Oct. 12. Miller has broken 12 season and career records at Arizona this year, after having already owned both the season and career assists records coming into this season.

Rodriguez, a freshman forward from Lake Forest, Calif., helped lead the Trojans to a 12-5-2 overall record and a third place finish (6-2-1) in Pac-10 action. She leads USC with nine goals this season, four of which were game-winners, moving into the Top-10 single-season school charts in both categories. Rodriguez is the third Trojan to receive Freshman of the Year honors, following Megan Kakadelas in 2001 and current teammate Rosa Anna Tantillo in 2003. Named Pac-10 Player of the Week on Nov. 8, Rodriguez was also named to the Soccer America Team of the Week and the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week for Nov. 8. The nation's top recruit in 2005, Rodriguez was named the 2005 Gatorade National Player of the Year, as well as National Player of the Year by Parade Magazine, EA Sports and NSCAA in her senior season.

In his ninth year at California, Boyd has guided the Golden Bears to a 14-3-2 record and their seventh NCAA Tournament appearance in the last nine years. Ranked as high as No. 6 in the national rankings, Cal received a No. 3 regional seed in the NCAA Tournament and will play Rice on Friday, Nov. 11 in Austin, Texas. Boyd owns an overall record of 110-57-15 (.646) at Cal and is the winningest coach in the program's history. This is Boyd's first Pac-10 Coach of the Year award.
