Weekend Preview: Stanford (10-6-3, 4-3-2 Pac-10) will travel a few miles south for the NCAA Tournament at Santa Clara ... The Cardinal earned an at-large bid and will face Saint Louis, the automatic qualifiers from the Atlantic-10 conference ... The Cardinal and the Billikens will square off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Buck Shaw Stadium ... The winner of the Stanford-Saint Louis match will face the winner of Santa Clara and Fresno State's first round match-up on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Tournament Talk: This will be Stanford's 15th appearance in the postseason and eighth-consecutive bid to the NCAA Tournament ... The Cardinal is 12-12-3 (.500) all-time in the postseason and 8-5 in First Round games (plus one bye in 1999) ... Last year Stanford posted a 2-0 victory over Cal Poly in the first round of the tournament, before falling 1-0 in double overtime to Santa Clara in the second round ... This will be the Cardinal's third-straight trip to Buck Shaw Stadium for the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Last Week: Stanford wrapped up the regular season with a pair of wins to earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament ... The Cardinal defeated Oregon State in Corvallis, 1-0, before capping the year with a 2-0 victory at Oregon in Eugene.

Stanford vs. Saint Louis: This will be the first meeting between the Cardinal and the Billikens.

Scouting the Billikens: Saint Louis (15-4-0, 8-0-0 A-10) posted a pair of shutouts en route to the A-10 Tournament title ... The Billikens topped host Dayton, 1-0, in the semifinals and then knocked off second-seeded Rhode Island, 1-0, in the title match ... By capturing the A-10 regular-season title, Saint Louis won back-to-back conference championships in two different leagues ... The Billikens won the Conference USA title in 2004 with a 9-1-0 league record and finished with an 8-0-0 mark in the A-10 this year, the program's first perfect league mark.

Stanford vs. Fresno State: Stanford is 2-0 versus Fresno State ... The two teams last met in 2001 at the Stanford Nike Invitational, with the Cardinal posting a 2-1 victory ... The squads also faced in the 1999 season opener, with Stanford taking a 2-0 win.

Scouting the Bulldogs: Fresno State (10-9-2, 4-2-1 WAC) comes into this weekend riding its longest winning streak in three years ... The Bulldogs won the WAC Tournament championship and will make its second NCAA Tournament appearance in school history ... Fresno State is unbeaten in eight of its last nine matches.

Stanford vs. Santa Clara: Stanford and Santa Clara have met 29 times, including a 1-0 Cardinal victory earlier this season ... The Broncos have a 7-17-4 edge over the Cardinal ... Santa Clara has knocked Stanford out of the NCAA Tournament in each of the last two seasons, both by 1-0 scores.

Scouting the Broncos: Santa Clara (14-4-2, 4-2-1 WCC) is the No. 2 seed in this quarter of the bracket ... The Broncos are making their 17th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament and SCU is the only Division I school to have reached the quarterfinals in each of the last ten years ... Santa Clara has only one victory in its last four regular season games.

Buehler Bullets: Stanford sophomore Rachel Buehler was honored after netting the game winning goals against No. 5 Santa Clara and Colorado College to help the Cardinal to the 2005 Stanford Nike Invitational title on Sept. 30 & Oct. 2 ... The goal against the Broncos was the first one in Buehler's collegiate career ... She was named Pac-10 Player of the Week and was also named to the Top Drawer Soccer and Soccer Buzz National Teams of the Week ... Buehler was recently named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team.

Hunt Hints: Senior co-captain Hayley Hunt was named to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week after helping the Cardinal to a pair of shutout victories over the Washington schools in the opening weekend of Pac-10 play ... The defender has helped Stanford to nine shutouts this season, while tacking on two assists ... Both assists were on game-winning goals, the first against Colorado College and the second against Washington State ... In the preseason, Hunt was named a MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List candidate ... Hunt was recently named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team.

Strong Schedule: Stanford had one of the toughest regular season schedules in the nation this season, having faced four of the top-five teams in the nation this year ... Eight of the Cardinal's 2005 opponents are currently ranked in the top-25 by the NSCAA Poll.
