USC Lands Two First-Teamers and Four All-Freshman Pac-10 Picks

Nov. 10, 2005

Five Trojans have closed out Pacific-10 women's soccer competition with all-conference honors following USC's third-place finish in the 2005 Pac-10 race. With the addition of an All-Freshman Team this season, the five Women of Troy have combined as the most Pac-10 honorees in a single season in USC history.

Forward Amy Rodriguez received the conferences's top freshman honor, named 2005 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year. Her Trojan teammate Rosa Anna Tantillo achieved the same honor in 2003, and this season Tantillo has earned her second selection to the All-Pac-10 First Team alongside Rodriguez. Together, the pair have combined for 43 points this season, with Rodriguez having drilled in nine goals and seven assists, and Tantillo dishing out 10 assists and four goals to lead the Women of Troy.

In addition to Rodriguez and Tantillo's first-team selections, three Trojan freshmen received Pac-10 accolades. Defender Meagan Holmes and forward Nini Loucks earned All-Conference Honorable Mention, locking down spots on the All-Freshman Team. Midfielder Stacey Strong also was honored on the Pac-10's All-Freshman Team, giving USC the lead with four members of the 2005 All-Freshman Team.

Rodriguez is the third Trojan to be named Freshman of the Year, and she now ranks in the all-time top 10 at USC for game-winning goals (4), single-season goals (9) and single-season points (25). Tantillo also has blasted her way up in the history books for single-season assists (10), already having a hold on the career charts for game-winners, goals and points.

Holmes has been an unshakable force in the Trojan back line this season, helping to secure an all-time best 11 single-season shutouts so far. Loucks' injection of speed on the front lines have helped the Trojans wreak havoc on opposing defenses, as she has added three goals and five assists so far in her first season at USC. Strong has started every game for the Trojans this year and has been a key member of USC's attack, tacking up four goals and three assists.
