Blue Team Grabs Series Advantage with 7-2 Win

Nov. 18, 2005

Los Angeles - Junior right-hander Kevin Brophy pitched 5.2 innings and allowed just one run on three hits with four strikeouts to lead the Blue Team to a 7-2 victory in Game 3 of the best-of-five Blue-Gold intrasquad series at Jackie Robinson Stadium on Thursday. The Blue Team now leads the series 2-1.

Seniors Chris Jensen and Brett McMillan, and sophomore Brady Dolan each singled in the first inning to put the Blue Team up 2-0.

The Blue increased its lead to 3-0 in the second inning after freshman Ryan Babineau tripled and later scored on a single by freshman Corey Ashner.

Dolan drove in two runs in the fifth inning to give the Blue Team a commanding 5-0 lead.

The Gold Team rallied in the top of the sixth inning, as freshman Brandon Crawford's RBI infield single cut the lead to 5-1. The Gold Team had the bases loaded when junior Anthony Norman smashed a hard ground ball up the middle, but freshman second baseman Eddie Murray made a tremendous play to turn a sure hit into a 4-6-3 double play.

Murray led the seventh inning off with a double and scored on an opposite field home run by junior Tim Stewart, as the Blue Team went up 7-2.

The Blue Team will look to clinch the best-of-five series on Friday, Nov. 18 at 2:45 p.m. in Jackie Robinson Stadium. Freshman Robert Dickmann will get the nod for the Blue Team against senior Daniel Miltenberger of the Gold Team.
